As I finish up my second semester and first elective in the Masters of Educational Technology program, I have learned a number of things. First and foremost, that when you add technology to lessons, students are much more excited about participating than when there is no tech. I found that it is relatively easy to incorporate technology in lessons with just a little bit more effort.
I have also learned that as I use technology, the education my students can receive is greater. It goes back to their willingness to participate. If it's a game, no matter how simple, if there is a cartoon, no matter how basic, the students retain more than they have in the past.
Looking at the AECT Standards, Standards 1, 2, 4, and 5 were what this entire course focused on. The content knowledge had to be explored, created, implemented, and evaluated by myself and the other learners in the course. We were required to take our courses and integrate, to the minute details, an enhanced experience for our learners. It was both exciting to integrate technology, yet frustrating when it felt like we were doing the same projects we did for a previously required course. I do feel, however, that professionally, I grew in my abilities to locate and integrate age appropriate activities for my students.
After participating in EdTech 541, I feel that I am equipped to use technology in my lessons without as much effort as I previously thought. All it takes is a few extra minutes, using lessons that are already established, to enhance the outcome of learning for the students I am interacting with on a daily basis.
As far as an evaluation of myself, personally, I think that in the category of content, I feel that I was able to provide thought, insights, and rich content in my posts. There were definitely connections made to my personal experiences with teaching in depth and detail. My posts had references to our reading materials and were mostly referred in APA style. I did respond to the posts that were required, but not in a timely manner for others to comment on my responses. I feel that I had one or more satisfactory posts with at least one satisfactory response made to address another students' post. As a result of my untimely responses to posts, I feel as though I deserve a 130 of the 140 points available.
